It's My Comment Party and I'll Have a Cold If I Want To

I was sneezing all day yesterday and I thought it was just allergies, but now I’m afraid I’m getting sick because I’m kinda achy and I’m even more snotty (sorry about referencing snot, I know that the last time I referenced snot people got grossed out, but I think I referenced snot more graphically that time, and this time I’m trying to be as casual and nonchalant and nongraphic as possible in my snot referencing as humanly possible), so I’m spending the day in bed.

But since I’m feeling sick and just planning on lying here in bed all day, I’m kinda bored and I’ve decided I want to have a “comment party”—whoever gets comment #100 wins.

Topics of discussion up for grabs:

--how Diem was totally robbed on MTV’s The Duel last night. (I am so mad at Aneesa. I was actually rooting for Aneesa before last night, but then she goes and lies to Diem and I was screaming at the television) (I know that most of you don’t watch The Duel, but I also know that the few of you readers who DO watch The Duel are as obsessed as I am, and I hope you are as incensed as I) (Steve? Marie? Bonnie?)

--the hotness of Daniel Craig (along with a confession: Casino Royale was the first James Bond movie I ever saw) (and then another confession: that last statement is partially false, because I’m pretty sure I saw one of the Pierce Brosnan Bond movies when I was in high school, but I don’t remember it at all, so I’ve decided to strike it from the record, and I definitely haven’t ever seen a Connery Bond film, so I think it’s okay for me to go around saying that Casino Royale is the first Bond film I’ve ever seen.

--now, I’m really bad at deciphering lyrics—like, reeeeeally bad—but at least once a week someone comes to my blog after googling the phrases “Bryan Adams” and “looking to me eyes” and as bad as I am at deciphering lyrics, I don’t understand what anyone might think “looking to my eyes” is supposed to mean. Maybe that’s why they’re googling it and coming to me for answers. But I don’t have any answers other than: it’s “look into my eyes.”

-- It seems like they’re handing out national holidays right and left these days, (or there was the one, at least) (and I’m not saying Ford doesn’t deserve one) (he totally deserves one) (in fact, I think his death should have gotten more attention than it did) (because remember when Reagan died? That was all you saw on every station for what felt like weeks—it was all Reagan this and Reagan that—and I think Ford got short shrift compared to Reagan) (hey, where does te phrase “short shrift” come from, anyway?) and I want to declare today the National Gia Does Not Have Rabies Day. Yes, her quarantine is over! (Actually, it’s not officially over until the end of the day, and the Animal Control woman should be coming by sometime this afternoon to give us our walking papers.)

--Speaking of Gia, any suggestions on how I can get her to stop licking her bunghole?

--how great is the word “bunghole”? I think it’s my favorite synonym for “anus.”

--I just sneezed and a huge loogie flew out of my mouth onto the couch and it was really gross.

--Britney Spears’ vagina.

--Joe Chandler is a punk.

--Apparently Danica McKeller (who played Winnie on The Wonder Years) wants to be on the next season of Dancing With the Stars. I have a feeling she’d be a really good casting choice, actually, because who doesn’t want to watch Winnie Cooper dance? She’s totally hot (I’m not as much of an expert of female hotness as I might be on male hotness, but I think Danica McKeller’s gotta be almost as hot as Daniel Craig) (right?) (or am I wrong here?) and she’s totally smart (I mean, she solved a math theorem and they named it after her) and she’s gotta be more fun to watch on the dancefloor than, say, Harry Hamlin. I think the next Dancing With the Stars cast should be made up entirely of former child stars. Like Wilson Cruz—that’s actually a great idea—if you work for Dancing With the Stars and you’re reading this, steal that idea—NOW—get Wilson Cruz on your show—I remember back in the mid-90’s when we went to the AIDS Dance-A-Thon at Universal Studios, Wilson Cruz was hot off of My So-Called Life and he was one of the hosts of the Dance-A-Thon and he was an awesome dancer—and then, of course, if you need any more proof of that, you can just watch that one episode of MSCL, the Happiness Dance episode, the one that Brian Krakow narrates, when Ricky dances with Delia Fisher at the end of the episode and the whole world (or at least the few thousand of us who were watching) was all like, hello. (Uma, I know you’re reading this right now and you’re thinking “why is Erik going on and on and on about Dancing With the Stars and he still hasn’t written the post he promised to write about the Staples Center show, but I’m sorry, my nose is filled with snot and this random post came out first because I really want to have a comment party) (of course, it’ll be really sad if I’m lying here in bed and no one comes to my comment party, but c’est la vie if that happens) (oh, and wait, speaking of Delia Fisher, I was watching this random documentary in the middle of the night last week about all of the child actors who were ever in Annie on Broadway and there was this one actress, Senta Moses, talking about what it was like to play an orphan in the show, and as she was talking I suddenly realized that she played Delia Fisher and she looked great and it made me want Senta Moses to be on every TV show ever, because she was great, and I can’t believe she was only in three episodes of MSCL because she definitely made a really big impression, but I don’t think she should be on the Former Child Stars season of Dancing With the Stars because she’s not really a big enough name)

--Oh, but while I’m on my rant about former child stars, have you seen this cracked out Corey Haim video??? (if you read Defamer, then you’ve probably seen it because they wrote a post about it a couple of days ago) (I can’t watch the whole video—it makes me too sad) (how can you go from Lucas to this?) (and Lost Boys is soooo not “still there,” Corey—sorry—it was great in its own way, and all, but I think your best performance, other than the one in Lucas, was your performance in License To Drive)

Okay, I think those are enough topic suggestions to get a comment party started.

#100, gimme my pony!

Jesse, you have to work sooooo much harder for the pony.

Gina said...

so, it seems kinda slow over here at your comment party. Maybe Gia should do her bunghole trick?

Erik said...

Yeah, Gina, my comment party hasn't really started yet. It's kinda like when you throw a party and you tell people to arrive at 7pm, but no one shows up until 9pm and things aren't really swinging until 10 or so. Except I didn't even tell anyone about this party, so I'm just waiting for people to happen to stop by. And now I kinda want to take my snotty nose over to the movie theater and see Dangerous Minds 2. I mean, Freedom Writers.

Erik said...

And the bunghole thing isn't so much a trick as it is a lick.

#4...ok this game is boring

I'm leaving this comment party and going to WritesThingsBetterCommentParty over on LiveJournal.

Jesse:

1. You weren't number 4, you were number 5.

2. And you'd better not start an anti-Erik blog too, like Joe freaking did. No fair. (His name should be Hoe Freaking instad of Joe Chandler.) (I didn't even mean to misspell his first name, that was an accident.) (Why am I obsessed with Joe Chandler, he's not even at this comment party.) (Sorry, Jesse, this comment is supposed to be about you.)

3. I've decided that Daniel Craig is hotter than Jeff Probst and he's hotter than that one midget who I thought was really hot.

Anonymous said...

You have not seen James Bond until you have seen Sean Connery as James Bond. Rent yourself Dr. No and From Russia With Love immediately. Such hotness! Oh, and Diem wasn't the only one robbed last night: we were robbed of more time watching CT becoming much much more adorable (as if that were possible) because he's in love---if he'd only do something about that poofy hair of his. Don't you love the way Aneesa reacted like she was so forlorn and surprised by Diem classily telling her to buzz off when Aneesa tried to apologize. Like a hug would make it all go away. Sheesh. LOVE the drama!

Erik said...

DOUG, I know I know, I need to check out some Connery bond. I will check out the two that you recommended. But do you think Connery is hotter than Daniel Craig? Because DC was really out of control hot in Casino Royale.

Re: The Duel, I used to think CT was such a tool, but he's completely won me over on The Duel. His whole courtship of Diem, the three week wait for a kiss, the first kiss on that cliff, how he helped her prep for the Duel, his pep talks with her. He's a good guy, poofy hair and all.

And I was sooooo annoyed with Aneesa. Um, that was the worst moment to try to apologize to Diem. Diem was still shaking with tears from that physically painful loss. Let her catch her breath! Let her get a hug from CT! Ahhhh!

Anonymous said...

I haven't yet seen the Craig Bond (I keep typing Bong--!!!!!) and I know I know I'll get to it but getting myself to a theater is hard for this broken bod so I may have to wait for the DVD. Anyway, from photos (including nudes!) I've seen of Craig, the two are neck in neck (someting I'd like to see) in terms of hotness but Connery is cooler I think in terms of presence and Craig seems warmer, but I can't tell without seeing the film. And as far as CT is concerned, I used to despise him and lust after him all at the same time when he was on Real World; that kiss with Diem, though, the buildup and all that went with it was like a breakthrough: I had no more hate for him, just all this lusty lust.

Erik said...

Doug, of course I can't compare either because I haven't seen the Connery bond movies (that's funny that we're both debating which Bond is hotter and we've both only seen the opposite Bonds), but I'm certain when you see the Craig Bond you'll find him hotter than you even think he is now. Because I knew Daniel Craig was hot before I'd seen the Casino Royale--I'd seen him in other movies, etc.--but I had no idea until I saw the movie how truly hot he actually is. It's crazy. And the movie's great. I was sitting on the edge of my seat and I actually yelled at the scream a couple of times. (I saw the movie in Burbank and if you've ever seen a movie in Burbank then you know that people screaming at the movie screen at Burbank theaters is the norm) (but it's not specifically the norm for me) (I just couldn't help it)

So who do you want to win The Duel? I wanted Aneesa to win after the whole Robin debacle (when Robin said those awful out-of-nowhere things about her race and sexuality), but after Aneesa's lie to Diem, I'm not rooting for her anymore. It's a toss-up between Svetlana and Jodi, now that D is gone. I'll root for Svet since she's the underdog and she's dominated in Duel matches. (Though I think it was weak when they DQ'd Beth--Svet shoulda gone home that night, the Bethinator got a foul deal.)

As far as the guys go, I definitely don't want Brad to win. (He should have supported Aneesa during the aforementioned Robin debacle, but instead he picked Robin at the end of that episode to "stay true to his original cast mate." Whatever, lame-o.) And it's kind of a toss-up between CT and Wes for me because even though Wes is a total tool, I got a soft spot for him after seeing that heartfelt tearful proposal to Johanna over the phone, and he's impressed me with his skill at the challenges. And then of course CT has also been wicked good at the challenges.

Of course, I wish Derrick could win, but c'est la vie. Hopefully next challenge.

Anonymous said...

You know I really can't say who I want to win. I don't even think in those terms when I'm watching the show. It's all about the interpersonal drama and until you asked me that I actually forgot that all of these people are clawing their way to winning some big money prize. Plus, I missed a big gap of episodes for one reason or another. Having said that, Wes should win absolutely NOTHING. He's just so yucky. I guess I'd want CT for the men ('cause then he and Diem can live happily ever after)and Jodi for the women. Are we the only people at this comments party? I'll stick around to see if you've got a reply then I'm off to rest my back. Toodles!

Anonymous said...

I forget my coat, so I'm not staying...and I think you're in love with JC, and I don't mean Jesus Christ!

Erik said...

Doug, usually I root for the people who will keep the drama going...that's why I was hoping Beth would stay longer...because she knows that it is her job to BRING IT and boy does she make sure it's been broughten.

I don't know how Wes has won me over this season (I used to DETEST him), but somehow he has.

And yeah, we're the only people at this comments party, but it's okay. Actually, Jesse wants to hang out, but he's too cool to be caught at a comments party with only two people, so he made up that excuse about forgetting his coat to come back (see above).

Erik said...

And Jesse, I'm not in love with JC, I just like to egg him on because he tends to comment more frequently when he gets egged on. Maybe the fact that I'm concerned about how often he comments betrays a secret, sublimated love. But he hasn't bothered to show up to my comment party, so whatever love was there is gone now.

Jesse's never going to get that pony if he keeps that up. Okay, I'm going. Toodles for real this time!

a) i watched the ENTIRE corey haim video.

b) i really miss the 80s. i think the kids 20 years younger than us should be far-removed enough by now to unknowingly repeat another totally unique, bizarre decade in pop-culture when they become teenagers. i hope so, but cause pop-culture-wise, everything's been a little bit boring ever since.

c) i was surprised to just imdb corey haim and find out he has actually worked semi-steadily since that video was taped, and also that he was once engaged to a woman.

d) i think i can speak for all of us and say there is nothing better than the feeling of dolphins swimming through our bodies when we kiss someone. it's so universal.

e) you should really, really watch the entire video.

f) if you do watch it again, in total, like you absolutely have to do now, because I DARE YOU, you may notice that corey says something about everyone having their own rhythm almost EXACTLY as he goes completely out of rhythm.

g) you should also watch the New Kids on the Block tour video where they're all sitting around philosophizing about the lyrics of "Step by Step".

h) i just started capitalizing for the very first time in this thread when i said New Kids on the Block. i'm going to try not to analyze that any deeper.

i) i have to go to a birthday party now.

Erik said...

Christy:

a) i am very impressed.

b) incredibly uniquely bizarre is a good way to describe the 80s. i think the next incredibly uniquely bizarre decade (the 10s?) should be all about mock-futurism. Like, inspired by The Jetsons. Lots of robots and metallic clothing.

c) well, he did have that bad period of time where he was selling his teeth on ebay to pay his bills, but yeah, i think he's done a lot of straight to video stuff. And surprisingly, no porn.

d) did corey say the thing about dolphins, because when i read that in your comment i Laughed Out Loud really hard and then i had to read it again and i laughted even harder. (um, "laughted"?)

e) okay, i will.

f) okay OKAY i'm watching the whole thing NOW!

g) this sounds brilliant, is it on youtube? it must be. everything is.

h) NKOTB rock, that's why you capped them.

i) have fun!

I had to google that, but I found it. The best part of the plot summary is "the stooges marry the girls." they ALL marry ALL of them? life was just simpler then.

LF

Anonymous said...

I love that you googled it and found the reference. I think it's actually from an old vaudeville routine, even before the Stooges, and then the Stooges probably did it in that movie (which, yes, has a great plot summary) (I loved the Stooges when I was about 8-years-old).

The "step by step, inch by inch" routine was also in an episode of I Love Lucy, and that's where I know it from.

i LOVED kids incorporated. it was like morning crack. if it was on in the morning.

when you said "step by step" i thought first of the sitcom with suzanne somers who just lost her malibu beach house.

the SECOND thing i thought about was the NKOTB step-by-step tour video where they're all philosophizing about taking steps.

it's been 15 years since i watched it (maybe i can get my mom to mail it to me and we can have a viewing party!), but it's seriously something like,

"There are like...all these...steps." "Yeah, steps." "Steps, right. And you have to take them *step by step*." "By step, by step." "Like, steps." "You know?" "Steps." "Steps."

ahhhhh, i went out for a bit and i missed Comment #50!

a couple things:

1. i don't know martika. who the frig is martika??? i will have to watch your youtube link.

Anonymous said...

okay, DAMN YOUTUBE. (actually, don't, i love them too much.)

they are down for a maintanence until 10 pm, which is in 50 minutes, so i'll have to wait to watch the martika video.

But:

OMG, yes, yes, YES--i loooooooved Kids Incorporated. So much.

oh, wait, hello google: martika sang Toy Soldiers! Yes! Great song! (i mean, as far as songs about toy soldiers go.) That is so not what I was referencing. At all.

But still:

I loooooved Kids Incorporated. Someone I went to high school with (Jason V, for those of you who I went to h.s. with) was semi-famous (at least, in my eyes) (for about five minutes) for having auditioned for Kids Incorporated and being *this close* to getting cast on the show. Yeah, I know, I know, so lame, but I watched that show religiously.

(However, as religiously as I watched it, my memories of the show are more like vague shards, fragments, images--was there ever magic on the show? Like, I have images of the kids cleaning that diner and then making wishes and suddenly they'd be onstage singing their little hearts out.)

Even though I barely remember the show, I could totally sing you the theme song.

"Kiiiiiids Incorporated...
K!
I!
D!
S!
Looks like we've maaaaade it...we're kids in...cor...por...aaaaaaaated."
