Step Up; Channing Tatum; "every second chance begins with a first step"

Step Up is the best movie ever made about a white hip hop dancer dude from the projects who gets caught vandalizing a high school for the arts and then has to do 200 hours of community service at the school but gets to spend his hours helping a moody (but not too moody) rich girl practice the if-only-it-had-some-hip-hop-dance-moves-it-would-be-great dance number she's choreographed for the end of the year showcase and then falls in love with her. Seriously. It's an awesome movie. I was practically dancing in my seat the whole time and if there weren't other people in the movie theater I actually might have just stood up and started dancing along with the people on the screen. Total cheeseball fun. And I finally know what my cousin Nikki meant when she was like "Channing Tatum is hot."

She's right. My favorite scene in the movie was the one where he's in the yard dancing with his sister and brother. (It's a very sweet scene.) Oh, and the final dance number kicks balls (I thought I'd try that as a variation of "kicks ass" but I'm not sure if it really works as a substitute) and there's even a nice little homage to Dirty Dancing in the dance number. The movie is definitely worth seeing. (I already recommended it to Boom Boom Becca, and Bonnie I think you'd love it too, for shiznit.)

Speaking of cheesy awesome movies, Jessica keeps making fun of me because we were having lunch at Fuddruckers and they have these random TV screens around the restaurant and we saw a preview for the movie The Covenant and she kinda dissed the movie and then I was like, (very emphatically): "Dude, it's warlocks in high school. On the swim team. I can't fucking wait." And I'm serious.

I think it has the potential to be the best movie ever. (And I know I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm going to go so far as to say, based on the concept alone, that the movie is probably going to be better than the Lord of the Rings trilogy.)

Tatum's taint can't wait, so step up and participate!

Jesse, I like it! (however, you know it's ineligable for the contest because the contest ended at midnight, 26 minutes before you submitted this.) (Maybe Adam will be lenient, but it's up to him to include it or not.) (You have others in the official contest submissions though, so I'm sure you're fine.)

Urp, I have seen 40 of the 50 movies on the list (which i think is kind of pathetic and now I'm going to have to rectify that so i can truly judge whether or not this is a good list).

The ten movies I have NOT seen, are: #50, 47, 45, 35, 33, 29, 27, 23, 18, and 13.

The one GLARING omission that i see at first glance is that Some Kind of Wonderful is missing. That's a crime. (And I think that Some Kind of Wonderful should replace Just One of the Guys--which definitely has many charms, but ultimately it's kind of a crappy movie.)

I think the top ten are pretty right on (though I'd like to move Say Anything up the list a few notches so that it's in the Top Ten instead of #11--if I had to knock one of the movies down to number 11 to give Say Anything its slot, I'd knock down American Graffiti.)

ums -

whose list is that?

also, Harry Potter is NOT a high school movie.

that is all

joe chandler said...

Mean Girls at #12 and Back to the Future at #28.

This is why I hate lists.

Joe, the list is from Entertainment Weekly Magazine.

And you're right, Back to the Future should be in the top 5, if not #1.
