Two questions (and THREE New Things: #95, #96, #97)

1. I'm going to see Tom Stoppard's play The Real Thing at South Coast Rep tomorrow afternoon (it's a matinee, natch) and my date cancelled on me so now I have an extra ticket. Anyone wanna see The Real Thing? The first person who calls me asking for it, gets to be my matinee date. (This is New Thing #95: I solicited a date through my blog.) (Maybe "solicited" is the wrong word for it.) (And this doesn't have to be a man-date.) (I would love for it to be a friend date.) (I just don't feel like making phone calls to offer up the ticket and thought that it would be fun to see if anyone would read my blog and then call me and be like, "yes! i'm in!") (So we'll see.) (Obviously, you have to be in Southern California to take me up on this offer.)

2. I'm working on a new play and one of the characters in the play only speaks Spanish, which is kind of difficult since I, um, don't speak Spanish at all. Right now I'm just writing her lines in English, and I'll have them translated into Spanish later, but I wanted to put some feelers out...anyone out there in my blogging community know Spanish well enough to do some translating for me, somewhere down the line? Thanks. (This is New Thing #96: I asked for a favor via my blog.) (It's seriously not a huge favor--it won't be that much dialogue.)

3. and this isn't a question, it's just a new thing. New Thing #97: I wrote something under a pseudonym. I can't say what it was that I wrote because that would defeat the purpose of it having been written under a pseudonym, but I need to at least record the fact that I did it because I've never written something under a pseudonym before and I've gotta take credit for each and every New Thing that I do because I am SO FREAKING BEHIND on my New Things! Like, holly cow! I have to do two New Things a day for the next god-knows-how-many-days just to catch up!

Steve's back! (not that you went anywhere, but it feels like it's been awhile)

I'm always here. I like to hide sometimes though. Enjoy the matinee. Also, I'm sure a lot of people can help you with #96, I can't personally, but my roommate speaks spanish and I can get him to translate if you need help.

"I'm always here." That's one of the things I like about you so much, Steve. It's okay if you hide from time to time, as long as you're still there.

While you were commenting, I added another New Thing to this blog entry.

Mon espaniol est tres mal. Mon francais est tres mal aussi, maleureusment. Merci pour ton room-frere qui parler espaniol. J'espere l'utiliser, p'tetre.

Wow, if my french teacher ever reads the above paragraph, with all of its misspellings and bad grammar, she would DIE.

That sure is a christmas-y cow, wearing all that holly.

my sister speaks spanish fluently and is currently living in spain, she's disappeared, actually, but has to reappear by the fall to enter her ph.d. program in south dakota. she might be down to help out. she's a good writer (natch).

what have you done to me?!?? the natchness is out of control.

You can also use this cool tool until you have someone who actually speaks Spanish look over your work to be sure it's right.

Loves me some Babelfish.

Re: NT97... you posed as my NBF Jessica Bendinger and emailed me, didn't you? You pulled a busboy on me, and that's your NT97, right?

Erik said...

BonBon, I would never pretend to be someone so cool as Jessica B. No, my pseudonymness wasn't part of a prank, just me not wanting to be known as me for this specific thing.

And thank you for the babel fish heads up!

and christy, natch.

I know i'm commenting on the wrong post for what i'm about to write, but i'm not sure if you check old posts for new comments...ANYWAY, so I don't know if anyone told you this already, but I was also quite curious about when is right to use natch, SO I GOOGLED IT! WOO!

Here you go,

"'...of course' is almost exactly what the interjection means.

To drop the "almost" and get to exactly what the interjection means, you have to realize that natch is short for "naturally."

While learning this usually inspires a "How could I not have realized that?" reaction in many people, it remains true that many people, such as this writer, had long been puzzled by the origin and meaning of natch! before it was explained to them. "

And now how stupid do I feel, because of COURSE natch is short for naturally! Duh!

Anyhoo, thought that may interest you :)

OMG, Komal, You totally just ROCKED. MY. WORLD.

Of course "natch" is short for "naturally"!!!!

I love that because I'm trying to spread the usage of "unfortch" as a shorthand for "unfortunately," which really is a burden of a word. You know, just too freaking long and unfortunate.

But "unfortch" let's you get right to the nitty gritty, natch.

Thank you for your google research. It made my day.

(Oh, and by the way, whenever someone comments I get an email with the comment, so YES, even if you posted a comment on a post from January, I would definitely still see it--whether anyone else saw it, though: that would be the question.)

How was THE REAL THING? I like that play...and it kinda makes me crazy. But I mostly like it.

Sheila's play was good. Kinda hot, too!

I still can't figure out what IMHO means. It makes me feel dumb, too, because people seem to use it all the time. Do you know???

Erik said...

In My Humble Opinion (IMHO), The Real Thing was not good. (I don't want to say bad; but it was "not good.") Actually, I like the script a lot and I saw a wonderful production of it years ago in New York, but this production was all about the accents and they were really distractingly bad, unfortch.

THANK YOU!!!

Kathy Clark you can't fool me!

I got mine at Target. You're not a man without one.

Jesse, I don't get the Full House link.

christy said...

IMHO, "The Real Thing" was much better as an 80's movie starring John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga.

(btw I just responded to your comment, I had so much fun, too!! Thank you! I am about to write a blog entry directly related to something that we did.)

that's what you wrote under your pen name, don't act coy Kathy Clark.

I have to say, I'm amazed that IMHO and natch are being defined somewhere on the Internet in 2006. Wow.

Y'all are cute.

Erik said...

we ARE cute, aren't we?
